Canvas Training: Grading
Canvas was introduced as our LMS system in the spring of Spring 2019. This is one in a series of trainings that my team and I designed to acclimate faculty to the program.
Problem:
Faculty were introduced to a new LMS system in the fall. While training was given via lecture the spring prior, administrative data has indicated that this was ineffective due to key features not being used.
Solution:
Because Canvas has a plethora of useful features, this training series is divided into bi-weekly ILT and VILT modules. The format is PowerPoint with assessments given through group discussion, think-pair-share, Google Forms, and check-ins after implementation. Feedback will also be given to facilitators from Google Forms and 'stop, start, continue' sheets.
Result:
Our landing was determined when Canvas software and selected features were 100% integrated the next fall. This was pinpointed through administrative software indicating the use of features by each teacher.
Highlights:
Google Forms is used to gather feedback from each lesson.
Collaboration with SMEs to design training and guides for learners.
A discussion period is used at the start of class to share successes and ask questions about the previous task.
Hands-on learning requires participants to work in front of a desktop with facilitators present during the training.
Training will come from a step-by-step process with sample Canvas pages on screens.
Specifics:
Software: PowerPoint
